Bachelor of Optometry

The School of Optometry, Pune, is a constituent part of Bharati Vidyapeeth (Deemed to be University) and operates within Bharati Vidyapeeth Medical College — one of Maharashtra's most respected medical institutions.

The Bachelor of Optometry (B.Optom) is a five-year undergraduate programme combining four years of academic study with a one-year clinical internship. It prepares students as primary eye care professionals capable of examining, diagnosing, and managing refractive errors and visual system problems through spectacles, contact lenses, low vision devices, and vision therapy.

The curriculum covers human biology, optics, refraction, dispensing optics, ocular diseases, binocular vision, contact lenses, public health, and community optometry. Students receive training through clinical assignments, workshops, hands-on patient care, seminars, and industry interaction across leading eye hospitals and optical industry partners.
